What to Wear to Your First Photoshoot: A Model's Checklist

30 June 2026

Your first shoot sets the tone for your whole portfolio. Here's exactly what to bring, what to wear and what to avoid — straight from The Access Studio team.

# What to Wear to Your First Photoshoot

Your first professional shoot is the foundation of your portfolio. The photos you walk away with are the ones agencies, clients, and casting directors will judge you on for the next 6–12 months. At **The Access Studio**, we prep every new model with the same checklist — here it is in full.

## The golden rule: less is more

The shoot is about **you**, not your outfit. Loud prints, logos, slogan tees and trendy pieces date fast and distract from your face. Stick to:

- Solid colours - Simple shapes - Fitted but comfortable

## What to pack for your first shoot

Bring options. A working portfolio needs variety, and changing outfits is the fastest way to get it.

### Tops - A plain white t-shirt or vest (fitted, no logo) - A plain black t-shirt - A neutral knit or jumper - One "smart" piece — a blazer, button-up shirt, or simple dress

### Bottoms - Well-fitting jeans in a mid or dark wash - Black trousers or tailored shorts - One pair of joggers or relaxed trousers for lifestyle shots

### Footwear - Clean white trainers - Neutral boots or heels - Bare feet (yes — for clean editorial frames)

### Underwear & basics - Nude/skin-tone seamless underwear - A strapless and a nude bra - Plain black underwear set

### Extras that always help - A second outfit in a colour that suits you - Minimal jewellery (small hoops, a simple chain) - Lip balm, deodorant, hairbrush, hair ties, bobby pins

## Hair and makeup

For digitals and first shoots, go natural:

- Clean, washed hair styled down and one styled up - Light, even base makeup - Groomed brows - Neutral lip

We can always glam up later in the day — we can't easily take heavy makeup off.

## What to avoid

- Fake tan applied the day before (it photographs orange under studio lights) - Visible bra straps under thin tops - New shoes that mark your feet - Heavy perfume (it lingers on borrowed wardrobe) - Tight clothing that leaves marks on your skin

## The night before

- Drink water — skin photographs better hydrated - Sleep. Concealer can't fix tired eyes - Lay everything out, including a back-up outfit - Check your call time and address twice

## How The Access Studio makes shoot day easier

- A prep call so you know exactly what to bring - A styled, lit studio set up for portfolio-grade images - A relaxed pace — we don't rush you through it - Edited images delivered straight to your profile

Your first shoot should feel exciting, not overwhelming. That's our job.
